Phethoho news is a free newspaper distributing 8000 copies weekly.

Phethoho news is a bilingual Small Commercial newspaper which started in 2008. The idea
started after a gap of communication between Government and the community was identified.
Before receiving support from MDDA, the project managed to print 3000, A4 copies twice a
month, but due to lack of funds it had to cease.

Currently, the project distributes 8000 copies/weekly and it’s one of its kind in the area since
there are no black owned newspapers which covers 70% of Thabo Mofutsanyane district which
is predominately Sesotho speaking. Thabo Mofutsanyane district comprises of five municipality
i.e Dihlabeng Local Municipality,, Nketoana Local Municipality,Mantsopa Local Municipality,
Setsoto Local Municipality and Maluti-A-Phofung Municipality. The municipality has the total
population of 725 932 people speak Sesotho ,Phethoho news is a bilingual newspaper that
consists of 60% Sesotho and 40% English.

The project prides itself for being able to create a working relationship with community radio
stations, Setsoto FM which covers Ficksburg and Naledi FM which covers Senekal, Marquard
and Clocolan. The Project has been continually working with both radio stations which stipulates
that Phethoho News will be advertised on the Radio stations in exchange of marketing their activities
on the newspaper. The project is also working with different organizations.
